Notations – Sept 3, 2018

Welcome to the SLHS Chorus 2018-2019!

We are very excited to welcome back Mrs. Gigliotti this year after an extended medical leave and to also have Mrs. McCormick with us again!

You will receive Notations via email every Sunday (Monday, if no school on Monday) so you can stay up to date with important Chorus affairs.  It will be posted on our newly designed website on the same weekly basis. Check out News & Notations at: https://www.southlakeschorus.org/resources/news/

Please read through the bulletin carefully so you won’t miss any urgent information.

Message from the PCA President

Welcome to the 2018 school year. I hope your students are still excited heading into the second week of school. There are a lot of fun and enriching things planned for them this year. The PCA (Parents for the Choral Arts) Board is excited to support them, Mrs. McCormick, and Mrs. Gigliotti.

We will share information about all the learning and performing opportunities with you at Back to Chorus Night, Thursday, September 13.  At 6:00 pm, in the SLHS Cafeteria, students and parents who are new to the South Lakes Choral Department are invited to a Meet and Greet for snacks and socializing with the teachers and the PCA Board. At 7:00 pm, all students and their adults will join us for the full Back to Chorus Program, where we will discuss the full year’s plans, and the places parental support is needed to make our program successful for all our singers.

The PCA holds a general meeting on the Second Tuesday of each month. Join us on September 11 at 7:00 pm in the Chorus Room, for our one-hour business meeting. This month’s agenda includes a discussion of our proposed budget, plans to drop the Fund Drive, and the PCA Membership Drive becoming our main fundraiser.

Parent Volunteers Needed:

We have a couple of jobs which need organized and detail-oriented parents, and all work can be done outside of school/work hours. Reply to this email for more information and you’ll be contacted by the person who held these jobs previously.

  1. Spring Trip Co-Chairs – The advanced choirs are planning a trip to New York City, March 14-17. We have one interested co-chair, but it’s a big job and we would like one more parent of a student in one of the advanced groups to join the effort.
  1. Scrip Sales – To raise money to help individual students finance their NY trips, we sell scrip, gift cards to many popular stores and restaurants. They are sold at face value, and we get a percentage back for each card.

We need a parent to coordinate the program. The previous chair will train you and work with you until you are comfortable in the role.

If you have any questions or concerns about Chorus, please feel free to contact Susan Sather: President@SouthLakesChorus.org

PCA Membership Update

A new PCA membership campaign will be unveiled at Back to Chorus night, Thursday, 9/13.

We hope to replace other fundraising with a membership campaign to increase our numbers and open up friends and family associate memberships.  Rewards and other details will be shared next week.
